Kindergarten with Ms. Gustafson

 


Dear Parents, 
     Kindergarten is humming with excitement.  During the month of December, the children have 
been busy making surprises, keeping secrets and singing songs.
       Nov. 30 is our field trip to William's' Tree Farm.  Please dress your child warmly.  We will be 
outside for the entire trip.  Students will need to bring a sack lunch that day to eat before the trip. 
      Room Moms are busy planning a holiday party for the children  on Thurs., Dec. 17.  They will be 
providing plenty of holiday treats and entertainment.  Dress your child in red and green to celebrate.
     The last day of school for 2009 is Friday, Dec. 18.  Vacation dates  include Dec. 21,  2009--Jan. 1, 
2010.  School resumes Mon., Jan. 4, 2010.
     I will be assessing the students in Jan. when we return from the holiday break.  They will receive 
their report card on Jan. 22, 2010.  The following is a list of areas to be tested:
     Letters and Sounds--Recognition of both upper case and lower case letters 
     that have been presented, along with the corresponding sound and correct 
     written formation on lined paper. (Mm, Ss, Rr, Tt, Pp, Cc, Aa, Nn, Dd, 
     Gg, Ff & Ii.)
     Sight Words--Recognition of sight words that have been presented.
     (a, my, the, I, like, go, we, on, & to)
     Number Concepts--Recognition, value and written formation of the 
     numbers 0-10.  Oral rote counting to 50.
     Shapes & Colors--Identifying the four basic shapes by name.  (circle,
     square, rectangle & triangle)

     Recognizing the eight basic colors.  Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, 
     purple, brown, black.
     Printing Name--Correctly writing name on lined paper using  upper
     case letter for the first and lower case letters for the rest.
     Spatial  Concepts--Demonstrates an understanding of basic spatial
     concepts.  (same, different, top, bottom, more, less, small, medium, 
     large, shorter, longer, over, under, up & down)
     Please take a little time to practice or review this information with your child over the vacation.
     Snackers for December are Reese, Reuber and Simpkin.
