What is my current grade in this class?

Grades are posted online and can be accessed by visiting the LWC homepage.
Grades are updated as assignments are graded by the teacher. Grades may not
be updated daily because the class may not have assignments daily.

Is there any extra credit I can do to help my grade?

Ideally, completing all homework on time and studying for tests will help to
maintain the grade you hope to earn. Extra credit is usually offered once
a quarter and should be taken advantage of even if the student feels he or
she does not need it at the time it is offered.
AP Language students are not typically offered extra credit.

Can I turn in any assignments late?

AP Language students: NO
English 3 Students: Students will be given one D.O.G. (Day of Grace) pass
that they can use on certain assignments to turn them in one day late for
credit with no penalty. DOG passes may not be used on certain assignments.

What can I do if I need help in English?

There are many options students have for extra help. The student's first
step should be to see the teacher. Mrs. Yanule is more than willing to help
students if they need it. See the "Teacher's Schedule" link for available
times. Students may also take advantave of the Academic Assistance room
that is available to all students during their advisory period. Students
simply need to report straight to the academic assistance room for help
rather than stopping at their advisory room. A teacher is available to
help students attending academic assistance. Students can also access the
Writing Center located in D124 for assistance with writing assignments.
Students will receive assistance from an English teacher or a qualified
student tutor in the Writing Center.

Where can I purchase the novels needed for class?

Students may obtain copies of the novels at the school bookstore located at
the front of the building near the main office. Bookstore hours vary, so
students should not wait until the last minute to purchase books. If
students have a copy of a previously owned novel, it must be approved by the
teacher for use. Students may also purchase novels at local bookstores.

What role do the vocabulary books play in the curriculum?

Students in English 3 are encouraged to complete the workbook. We will
complete activities in class to prepare for quizzes; quizzes are typically
given on Fridays. Students can also use online review games (see the "Links
page") to help them prepare. First semester students will be given credit
for completing the workbook and participating in class activities.
AP Language students will study Word Wealth independently.

Do students receive study guides?

English 3 students are given study guides with most, but not all, novels.
AP Language students may receive study guides, however, the annotating
requirements should act as a guide for reading.

What is the proper format for submitting assignments?

Students should follow all guidelines included on the "Style Sheet" located
in the LWC Academic Planner. This includes: providing a proper heading in
the upper left-hand corner of the page, using loose-leaf paper, using blue
or black ink pens rather than pencil, and writing on one side of the page
only. See the "Style Sheet" for additional guidelines.

What should I do if I don't have a computer/printer at home?

Be sure to make arrangements with Mrs. Yanule well in advance and she will
write you a pass to use the school library. You may also use the public
library computers. Be sure to have a reliable way to save and print work,
as assignments will not be accepted late because of "computer malfunctions."
