What's the best way to reach you?

Email! I have much more flexibility to respond to parents using email than
I do when I need to return a phone call. I will also likely get back to you
much faster by email.

Why don't you call me back quickly?

I really only check my messages about once a day. Even if I get your
message, I might not have the time to call that day. The time crunch issue
is especially a concern right before a major essay assignment or during
midterm time when several parents might have left me a message. Please know
that your question/concern is very important to me and I will get back to
you as soon as I can. Of course, email is always a faster method of
communication!

How much homework will (I/my student) have?

Homework of some sort should be expected every day. Whether it is reading
assigned chapters, reviewing vocabulary words for a test, or doing an
activity that was assigned, it's likely you will have some form of English
assignment to do each night.

Do you post grades online?

Yes, through the private "my student" link that can be found on the LW
District 210 website. This year students also have the ability to access
their grades. This is a great way for parents and students to track their
progress in any of their classes.

If (I/my student) is struggling, what can they do to get extra help?

For writing help, students can visit the newly formed, Writing Center. If a
student needs help during a time when I am in class, he/she can go to the
Academic Assistance center. Of course, students may also schedule an
appointment with me, look at some of the helpful links I have posted on my
website, email me questions (before 8pm), or find a study buddy. Study
groups/pairs can be very helpful in both high school and college. No
cheating, though! : )

What is TURNITIN.COM?

Turnitin.com is a plagarism prevention website that is aimed at helping to
ensure teachers are grading authentic student work. Everytime I assign
a formal paper, students are required to submit the paper to turnitin.com.
If a student does not submit to turnitin, his/her paper automatically
receives a zero. I have never given a zero for a non-submission.

Will you email me weekly progress reports for my son/daughter?

Unfortunately, time does not allow me to be able to email personalized
progress notices to parents on a weekly, biweekly, or even monthly basis.
However, by simply accessing my website and your student's grades using the
online grade system, you essentially can have a daily update of your
student's progress in my class. I work hard to keep my website and grades
updated as often as possible to help you to remain informed on how your
student is doing in class.
