Here's our Targets for this semester:
Juniors:
I can reognize the literary characteristics of the writers during the Age
of Faith, Age of Reason, Romantics, and Rise of Realism.
I can identify literary characteristics of the Age of Faith, Age of
Reason, Romanticism Era and Rise of Reason within literature from those eras.
I can comprehend the main ideas of The Scarlet Letter and Huck Finn when
given reading focus points and begin to identify the author's purpose.
I know the definitions of the elements of a body paragraph.
I can write an argumentative essay using the correct body paragraph format.
I can make connections when reading literature beyond a "right-there" plot
level using reading cues given to me by Mrs. Schiller
I can use Mrs. Schiller's suggestions to help me prepare for my final exam
(both essay and district final).
Freshmen-
I can define the literary terms appropriate for freshmen English.
I can recognize the difference between two or three minimum competency
words and know when to use them correctly.
I can read an age-appropriate short story and identify literary terms
within that story.
I can use the LW databases to locate reliable resources to use for my
informative speech.
I can write an outline.
I know the structure of the body paragraph and can apply that understanding
when writing a literary analysis paragraph.
I can use reading cues to help me understand a novel.
I can ask questions about literature when I don't understand.
I can monitor my reading by subsearching and seeking help when I am having
difficulty reading.
I can use Mrs. Schiller's suggestions to help me prepare for my final exam
(both essay and district final).
