Bringing Treats to Class:
As a school, one of our goals is to promote healthy life style by encouraging healthy eating habits. We do not allow pizza, cakes, cupcakes, donuts, candy, brownies, chips, and soda pops to be brought as treat to the classrooms. Celebrating students’ achievement is important but students can only bring healthy choices as treats to class. Some of the options are as follows:
· Granola or cereal bars
· Yogurt (non gelatin base)
· Fruit cups
· Fruit base snacks (non gelatin base).
· Cut up fresh fruits
· Chex mix or pretzels
· 100% fruit juice box
· Cut up vegetables
· Cheese strings
· Dry fruits mix
· Unsalted peanuts
· Almonds, walnuts or pecans
· Raisins
· Low fat crackers
· Low fat popcorn
· Cheese crackers
· Rice cakes
· Baked chips
· Any other combination of healthy choices
PARENT VOLUNTEERING:
The volunteering is for weekly READ ALOUDS and ART ACTIVITIES. If you are interested in read-alouds you would need to bring a couple books/novel to read to the students each week. You can get them from the library if you wish. If you want to do art projects you would need to come up with something thematic the class is doing for that week. (I can e-mail you and help you with the ideas). A note was sent home if you are interested! Read alouds or art would be every TUESDAYS at 3:00PM.
STUDENT PLANNER: Your child will write each days homework in the planner to stay organized. If you have not already signed the first page, please do so. Note your child should bring the planner and homework folder to school daily.
LIBRARY BOOKS:
Students need to always keep their library book in their backpacks so they do not forget to bring it to school daily. Library books are due on Wednesday's otherwise there will be a charge from the library.
Students are required to read their library book so they are prepared. Students will do journal reflections, text connections, and take an accelerated reading test weekly with their library book.
Make sure you are checking to see that your child has read his/her new book weekly. Show interest in your child's book and ask for critical thinking questions. Have them relate the character of the book with someone they know and make connections. Make sure your child is not just "reading" but actually "understanding and making meaning" of the book.
If the book that I picked out is too easy or too hard for them, I will be able to adjust to their level as we progress. The goal is for each child to read at their grade level by the end of the year.
A.R TESTS WILL BE ON THE FOLLOWING MONDAY!
