Course Requirements:
.
- Bring to class each day your textbook, 3 ringed binder (which will include your class notes, homework, calendar and any other handouts), as well as a pen/pencil.
- All students will be required to keep a three ringed binder for the entire semester. The binder will be divided into three areas; class note, handouts and homework. Organization is a key to success in this course. You may want to purchase folders for your binder so you can keep all your papers together!
- Go to our class web page found at www.marian.com . Here you will find lots of goodies like a monthly calendar for each unit of study. The calendar is essential in that it will outline for you topics we will study as well as important due dates. You will often find electronic copies of assignment on the web page as well!
- Attendance is critical for your success! Tardiness and absences will be dealt with as per school policy.
- Participation is an important part of your grade in this course. You will be asked to
become involved in many different types of experiments and activities that are used
to augment the class discussions. Students will receive a participation grade at the
end of each quarter.
- All make up work missed due to an excused absence may be made up. Homework is due the day you return and tests must be made up no more than five days after you return. Tests must be made up before or after school. No class time will be given for make up work. All unexcused absences will be dealt with as per school policy. All late work will be deducted 20% and no work will be accepted after an assignment has been returned.
- Tests will be objective, short answer and essay in format. These exams will not only cover the material found in the text, but also information from class notes, handouts, AV presentations, etc.. The semester exams for this course are comprehensive so it is important that you retain all materials (homework, tests, etc..) returned to you.
- All work will be assigned a point value, depending on the length and difficulty of the assignment. All work is divided into the three categories listed below. Also listed is the approximate percentage each type of assignment will be of the quarter grade.
- Activities (Articles, Studies, Demonstrations, Papers, Homework) 55%
- Assessments (Quizzes, Tests) 35%
- Class Participation 10%
**Cumulative semester exams will comprise 20% of the semester grade.
- The grading scale for this course is as follows:
A = 95-100 A- = 93-94
