SOPHOMORES:
We have completed the first 5 chapters of Cry, the Beloved Country and are preparing for the first quiz (11/25.)  Although we have been reading together in class, please use your free time at home to reread difficult passages and answer all study guide questions - using complete sentences

As discussed in class - you can access a COMPLETE online version of your Literature book!  Just visit www.classzone.com, register as a student, using this code:  3136749-160 and you'll be able to view everything (stories, questions, etc.)  You can even LISTEN to stories being read to you by professional actors!  This is a wonderful option!

JUNIORS:
We've seen the historical retelling, lecture version and now we're reading Arthur Miller's dramatic version of the Salem Witch Trials in his play The Crucible. Many students are already scratching their heads, wondering why Miller changed facts around for this drama.  Remember - Miller was writing to address issues of McCarthyism in his own generation!  The story of the witch trials is a cautionary tale, which has been sadly ignored by almost every generation.  We saw this first-hand when we viewed the 2009 documentary Witch Hunt about the Kern County prosecutions that spanned from the mid 1980's to 2004.  I hope you all can begin to see how literature - and theatre - can act as a very influential tool in  social justice movements.
