Publications

This elective English course will first provide students with the skills necessary to publish the yearbook and the school newspaper. Students will learn journalistic writing, basic photography skills, computer layout techniques, headline writing, and copy-editing. The styles and techniques of writing editorials, sports articles, news articles, and feature articles will be emphasized. In addition to class work, students may be required to attend after school meetings periodically to meet publication deadlines.  Similarly, students may need to attend after school events in order to cover those events for both the newspaper and the yearbook. Students will also discuss other various types of media, including advertising, film, web-journalism, and television, time permitting. Students in grades 10 and 11 may repeat this course with leadership expectations only with approval from the instructor.
