Text: Algebra 1

Course Objectives:

This is the first of a two-year algebra 1 sequence for freshmen that covers basic concepts of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in algebra, properties of linear equations and inequalities, absolute value, and operations with polynomials.

Class rules:

Be in your seat when the bell rings at the beginning of class and until it rings at the end of the class. Work during work times. Being all required materials to class. These materials include the following: textbook, notebook, pencils, and a calculator. Any disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. Follow all rules that are in the student handbook. Any cheating on any assignment will cause a zero on that assignment and any other consequences that the teachers deems necessary. Any changes to the class rules will only be allowed by the teacher.

Course information:

Homework will be assigned daily and check regularly. There will be both announced and unannounced quizzes. There will be test after each chapter. All work must be done in pencil: anything in ink will be returned ungraded and recorded as a zero in the grade book.

Evaluation:

All assignments, quizzes, and test will be assigned a certain number of points.   Quizzes will be worth 100 points; homework will be worth 100 points; projects will be worth 500 points; and test will be worth 1000 points. At the end of each quarter all points will be totaled and grades will be assigned as follows: A 100-95%, A 94-90%, B+ 89-87% , B 86-83% , B- 82-80% , C+ 79-77% , C 76-73% , C- 72-70% , D+ 69-67% , D 66-63% , D- 62-60% , and F 59-0%. All assignments must be turned in on time. Any late assignment will only be allowed by the consent of the teacher.   If the teacher allows the assignment, the assignment will be deducted 50% of the point allowed prior to grading.

Students Duties:

Students will listen, take notes, and ask question when necessary. Class work and homework must be done individually and to the best of one’s abilities. You can always get extra help before and after school. If you are absent it is your responsibility to make up all missing assignment as quickly as possible.
