The 7th grade Math classes will be trying something new this year! We are beginning a project
entitled "Welcome to the Real World."
Each student will be playing the role of a 25 year old, who has completed the basic educational
requirements for the their chosen occupation. They are unmarried adults with no children. They
will live on their own and receive no financial help from their family or friends.
The students will have a two week (10 day) progam based on the following:
Week 1-
Day 1: Career Selection- Students will complete a lifestyle survey, then choose their top 3
occupations from a list of over 700 choices. After researching their careers in the computer
lab, they will decide which one they would like to have.
Day 2: Salary and Taxes
Day 3: Banking and Money Managament (Representatives from local banks will be in to speak with
the classes about Savings and Checking Accounts and Debit/Credit Cards.
Day 4: Open Personal Checkbook and Savings Account
Day 5: Home/Car
Week 2-
Day 6: Utilities and Insurance
Day 7: Groceries and Clothing
Day 8: Entertainment and Deck of chance
Day 9: Create collages of their Life at 25
Day 10: Final Balances and Closing of the Real World Accounts
Week 3-
Day 11: Tour of the Local Banks to see how they operate.
