GENERAL PHYSICAL EDUCATION INFORMATION

 

1.  Requirements:  Every student is required to take PE classes by the state of Illinois.  If a student is physically incapable of participating in gym, a doctor’s note is required.  If a student is ill, a parent note will be accepted for 1 – 2 days.

 

2. Grading Scale:  All students are graded daily in gym on a 10 point scale.  If they are dressed in the required uniform, follow directions, participate with maximum effort and display good sportsmanship, they will receive 10 points for the day.  Not dressing for gym will result in an automatic loss of 10 points.  Other instances students may lose points for include the following:

                        Poor jogging/stretching during warm ups

                        Being late to their squad

                        Inappropriate/unsafe behavior

                        Inappropriate language

                        Chewing gum or candy

                        Poor sportsmanship

                        Shorts not worn at the waistline

                        Not returning equipment at the end of class

 

3.  Units Taught:  All students participate in a variety of sports and games during the school year.  Some of these include touch football, soccer, fitness testing, volleyball, basketball, softball, track and field, and a variety of organized games.  In addition, students participate in’fitness ’ days 1 – 2 times per week.  These fun, running activities are aimed at increasing their cardiovascular endurance.

 

In addition, students will be required to take health classes during the second and third quarter.  Some of the topics covered include physical growth and development, healthy heart fitness, cardiovascular disease, infectious disease and first aid/safety.
