Do you want to help in the fight against pollution? Do you want to save some trees? If so, keep
reading.
Think about how many catalogues you (or your parents) get in the mail each day. Of these
catalogues, how many do you actually WANT, and how many go directly into the garbage or recycling
bins? You can put a stop to this wasteful practice by going to www.catalogchoice.org. This site, a
non-for-profit organization, will allow you to tell various companies that you no longer wish to
receive these unsolicited mailings.
Here's how it works. First, get your parents permission, and ask them to come help you. Then, once
you're logged on to the site, you'll be prompted to enter your name and address, and then you'll be
asked to select the catalogues you no longer want to receive. (You'll have to have the latest
catalogue nearby because it will ask you to enter the catalogue's customer number, which is located
near your name on the mailing label.) Just so you don't worry, there's even an option to log back in
later and re-select any catalog you would like to start receiving again, so don't think this has to be
permanent.
To anyone reading, this is SUPER easy, and it really can make a difference in the world. (It'll probably
make your mailman happy, too!) Remember--if this is something you're interested in, ask your
parents to do this for you. It's NEVER a good idea to provide personal information (i.e., name,
address, etc.) online unless you are (or are in the presence of) a responsible adult.
