For an additional fee, P.L.A.I.D. Academy offers the Essential Learning System program (ELS).  ELS is a flexible platform software that uses a multidimensional, therapeutic approach to address the reading, language and learning developmental needs of students of all ages.

Our approach focuses on mastery, positive reinforcement and motivation, resulting in significant gains in grade-level equivalencies, test scores, self-esteem and overall performance.

Discover Music: Discover Life's (DMDL) mission is to enhance student academic achievement and life skills through supportive mentoring and by developing and implementing standards-based curricula.

Student Council

 

The purpose of this organization shall be to represent the students of PLAID Academy; to be a listening body for concerns and ideas; to generate ideas to make the school better; to learn how representative government works by actively participating.

 

Membership: Teachers, sponsors or parents can at the request of student council be known as advisory members (advisors but not voting members). Members must: (a) Be a PLAID student in 5th - 8th grade; (b) Have a C average (c) Be a respectful student (d) Have permission from their parent(s) and teachers (e) Must attend meetings to represent the students There are no membership dues or fees for this organization.

 

Meetings: To be held weekly on Wednesday from 8:30-9:00am. Special meetings may be called as needed.

 

Activities: Plan social events. Assist in the production of the yearbook and school newspaper. Help keep the PLAID grounds clean and attractive. Promote safety in school. Organize and promote any "drives" worked on at school for the betterment of the community. Carry information to other non student council groups (classrooms, teachers and parents).

 

Computer

 

P.L.A.I.D. Academy has a computer lab with 10 laptops for student use.  Students have worked on various projects this year, including: creating brochure's, writing essay's and research papers, letter writing, typing practice, various math, science, social studies and reading programs, using internet for research and mapping, encyclopedia research and atlas programs.

 

Yoga


Every Monday students at P.L.A.I.D. Academy recieve 45 minutes of Yoga instruction from Ms. Maureen Ryan.
