What should I do for my child's birthday?
Please feel free to send a small treat for the entire class on your child's
birthday. We have 23 students in our class. Please do not send in "goody
bags". Your child's birthday treats will be passed out during our regular
fruit break time. Please do not send treats with peanuts or peanutbutter in
them.

What is a typical fruit break snack?
Fruit break has been designed as a time half way through the morning for the
students to have a nutritious snack. My rule is that the kids can not bring
any of the "THREE Cs" - no chips, candy or cookies. Students typically
bring a piece of fruit, carrots, yogurt, raisins, applesauce, jello,
pretzles, a small fruit cup or a similiar healthy snack. Please only send in
one item each day.

What is my child's plan for after school changes?
Please write me a note or leave me a voice-mail message if your child is not
taking the bus home or if someone different is picking him/her up
afterschool. You should also leave a message with the office.
First grade students often forget what you may have told them in the morning
and I will always assume that his/her plan is as usual.
--------------------------------------
How do I add money to my child's lunch account?
When your child's lunch account has less than $5.00, a reminder is sent home
to add money to his/her account. You can send a check to school with your
child and I will send it down to the cafeteria. Typically, parents send in
money in $20.00 increments.

When do the students go out for recess?
In the fall and in the spring we add an extra morning recess on Tuesdays and
Thursdays. All throughout the year, the students go out everyday after
lunch. If the outside temperature is below 20 degrees, the students will not
go out and we will have indoor recess. If it raining or just too wet out,
they will also stay in. When there is snow on the ground, students will not
be allowed to play on the playground or in the snow unless they have boots &
snowpants- if your child does not have boots & snowpants he/she will spend
recess staying on the blacktop. I recommended that you send an extra pair of
socks to be kept in your child's locker.
