Homework

Typically, homework is sent home on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
If your child forgets his/her homework, they are always given one extra day
to bring in the late work. After one late day, your child will miss recess
to complete the assignment.

A Park View requirement for all first graders is to be reading every night.
Remember that your child can read TO YOU - or - WITH YOU - or - LISTEN to
you read. This should be an enjoyable part of your evening, so have FUN!

Reading vocabulary words are sent home with each new story we read.Your
child needs to write each word on an index card & put the card in a box or
in a ziplock bag. Please review these words and keep them in a safe place.
Before each reading theme test, your child should be able to read all of the
vocabulary words that have been sent home.

Typically, each week, your child will bring home a book in a bag. This is
the book that he/she read in reading group that day. Please have your child
reread this book to you and return it to school the next day. There will
usually be a book report/work paper to complete about the book.

When your child has written homework, please support your child but do not
feel that everything needs to be spelled correctly. Certainly, at the
beginning of the year, "first grade spelling" is acceptable as the students
begin to figure out sound/letter relationships.

All of the above should keep you and your first grader busy! Homework
should only take 10-15 minutes each night. Please let me know if problems
arise.
