About us

Mrs. Oyer (Students A-L)

I am thrilled to be in the office as a full-time counselor this year. I have
taught business and technology classes for 22 years. I have taught at PBL
High School since 1994. I earned my Bachelor's of Science Degree in Business
Education from Eastern Illinois University with a psychology minor in 1990.
I then went back to earn my Master's in School Counseling from Eastern
Illinois University in 2005. I started the 2005-2006 school year as a
counselor, but still taught some business classes. My time outside of
counseling is spent coaching volleyball and with my family. I am looking
forward to this year and I hope everyone has a great 2011-12 school
year at PBL High School!

Mr. Burns (Students M-Z)

I have spent the last 2 years doing a school counseling internship and
substitute teaching in suburban Chicago high schools. Prior to that, I spent
almost 10 years in the business world as a project manager where I learned
the organizational skills I will need here to juggle the many tasks that
arise every day while working with students. I earned my Bachelor of Arts
in Public Communication and Human Relations from Western Illinois University
in 2000 and my Master of Arts in School Counseling from Roosevelt University
in 2010. I am excited about my first year as part of the team at PBL and am
looking forward to working with a new group of students.

connecting students with resources, and anything else related to your
academic success.

2. Career (post-high school planning - including college)

applications, job shadows, career interest inventories, career research and
exploration, resume and interview guidance, and anything else related to your
plans for after high school.

3. Personal and/or Social Needs

We are happy to help you with ANYTHING! Goal setting, relationships,
conflicts, family issues, bullying, friendships, anxiety, habits, routines,

information with people such as teachers or parents. The only time that we
are required by law to break confidentiality are concerns of student safety.
