We are working very hard on learning how to summarize a story. This skill can be hard to learn and takes lots of practice. Book reveiws are a fun way to practice summarizing.
What is summarizing? Summarizing is the ability to produce a condensed version of information. The summary included on the important elements (characters, setting, problem, solution, and 2-3 major events) and retains the order of the original information.
Why is summarizing imporant? Summarizing is important because...
* it provides an opportunity to communicate what is important
*it serves as a way to check understanding
*it provides practice in decision making and sequencing
