Do Kinders take naps?

Not typically! We are Busy Bees and have so much fun learning
there just
isn't time for sleeping! On occasion, my EDK's will take a rest
after
lunch...especially during the first days of being at school all
day!

Should I send a snack with my child?

YES! Please! I ask that you send something yummy yet nutritious!
No lunches please! 1/2 day kinders only have time for a snack.

How will we correspond with you?

I provide each of my students with a B.E.E. Book.
This is a folder that your child brings to and from school
each day. Check out the B.E.E. Book
page for more details!
You can also contact me through my school
e-mail address: lettema@d88a.org
or through the e-mail link on the left
of this page.

What is EDK?

EDK stands for Extended Day Kindergarten. I have the great honor
of being the EDK teacher here at Richland. This is a program
offered by Richland Elementary School to students that need an
extra boost to get them prepared for First Grade! Based on their
Kindergarten Pre-Assessment and other research based assessments,
some children will be extended the invitation to join the EDK.
The children stay for the afternoon after their regular morning
Kindergarten. This program was designed to be "in addition to"
not a second dose of their regular Kindergarten experience. We
reinforce the skills being taught by the homeroom teacher, but in
different ways to help ensure all the students will be prepared
for their First Grade year.

Do the EDK students stay for lunch?

Yes, the EDK students stay for lunch after their morning
kindergarten session,
have a recess time and then come to our classroom for the
afternoon. They can
bring a lunch or purchase a lunch in the lunchroom. There is a
link on the
District website where parents can set up a lunch account for
their child so
they don't have to bring money for lunch everyday.

Are all children in your morning class automatically in the Extended Day Kindergarten Program?

No. My morning class and my EDK class are two completely
different classes.

What is Popcorn Day?

4-5 times this year the PTC will do a fundraiser of selling
popcorn to the students for 50 cents a bag. The coupons typically
go home on Monday or Tuesday and if you return them with payment
your child will receive their bag(s) of popcorn on Friday
morning. You do not have to participate. It is optional and I
have the children bring the popcorn home with them. We don't
have it for our snack at school.

What are the procedures for dropping my child off in the morning?

If your child is not riding the bus, you will need to park your car
in the parking lot and walk your child to the kindergarten doors.
Our doors are the very east doors of the Elementary Building.
Please do not park in the circle drive as this is for buses only!
While the weather is nice enough I will meet the children outside
and escort our entire class in when the bell rings. Parents, and I
know this is a tough one..., must wave good-bye and not enter the
building with us! Sorry!
When the weather gets bad or if it is raining one kindergarten teacher
will be at the doors when the bell rings to let the children in.
We will not make them line up outside!
PLEASE WALK YOUR CHILD ACROSS THE CIRCLE DRIVE!!!

What are the procedures for picking up my child from school?

If you will be picking up your child on a regular basis or on
scheduled days please let me know. I will send your child to
the Elementary Office and you can meet your child there.

If you are picking your child up from school early
you will need to sign your child out at the Elementary Office.
Please send me a note in your child's B.E.E. book that day and
I will be sure to have your child ready.

What if we're late for school?

You'll have to bring your child to the Elementary office and sign
them in. The office will call our room and I will send two friends
to pick up your child! School policy doesn't allow you to walk
your child to our room unless you're signed in to volunteer that day.
