Welcome to Second Grade - Room 103 Seth Whitman Elementary School

Welcome to our website, a place where you can visit all of the important
information about what is going on in our classroom and at school. I hope
you are able to find everything that you need to keep you informed of the
procedures, events, and learning activities for the 2009-2010 school year.

I posted a few pictures from the Christmas music program. They did a
WONDERFUL job! They made so many people happy that night. Mrs. Parret puts
so much work into that show. We are very lucky to have her at Seth Whitman.
They worked very hard in order to prepare for the show.

I put all of the fall photos together into one spot now. I also added photos
from our Christmas party and photos of the landform projects. They were so
excited to share their projects. We made a museum of the projects out in the
pod so the other second grade classes could take a look also.

Take a look at the link for our Christmas Power Point project. They are
learning how to use Microsoft Power Point in the computer lab. Each child
made their own page about Christmas traditions. They learned how to make a
page, choose font, and how to chose a picture. They love to spend time
learning technology.

We have one week until the end of the second quarter. I can't believe how
fast this school year is going. I will be working on report cards soon after
we return to school in January.

The students will be bringing home information about a few different reading
incentive programs when we return to school. Watch for information coming
home in their folders soon. All of my students will have the chance to
participate in reading programs from Pizza Hut, Magic Waters, and Six Flags
Great America. This is a great way to encourge reading at home.

We are spending a lot of time learning facts about the tropical rainforest.
This goes along with our nonfiction reading selection in the Storytown book.
We will begin to work on a big rainforest writing project once we return to
school. You will be hearing about this special project.

Our next math chapter will be the two digit subtraction with borrowing and
trading. This is the hardest thing that they will encounter in math this
year. Subtraction tends to be more difficult than addition. Please practice
subtraction facts using flash cards at home to help your child prepare.

I would like to thank all of the parents who helped make our classroom
Christmas party so nice. The kids really enjoyed it.

Enjoy the winter break your family.
