Students are required to keep a Visual Diary. This is a sketchbook and
journal combined and a nice way for students to take Art out of the
classroom, as well as a keepsake portfolio of their work. Students are given
weekly assignments in their diaries. Visual Diary assignments deal with
drawing skills and divergent thinking skills. All assignments are worth 20
points and are due at the end of the period each Monday. The Visual Diary is
25% of the overall grade in Art. Students are encouraged to take their
diaries home to work in them, but they are also required to have them each
day in class. All diary assignments require a two sentence written self-
reflection, and students may write these on their Reflection Sheets at the
beginning of their Visual Diaries. Students are given one class period to
work on their weekly Visual Diary assignment, and the assignment is then to
be completed at home if additional time is needed. Students are also
encouraged to free draw in their Visual Diaries as well to further develop
their drawing and creative skills.
Students are allowed to take any of their major Art Form
assignments home to work if needed.
