What are we learning?
6th Grade Computers
:
Our first test is a performance test in which students are graded on their ability to format a MS Word document. The first grade for this class will not happen until a few weeks into the quarter. However, their progress as we practice the skills is being reviewed up until the test. Be sure to ask your child about some of the new things in MS Word 2010 and ask them about how they did on their UltraKey pre-test (keyboarding). The expectation for 6th graders is to be able to type 30 wpm at 95% accuracy or higher by the end of the quarter. In order to "exceed" through the "meets" ranges and earn the "4", students will need to increase their speed up to 45 wpm or higher. We already had a couple of 6th graders this quarter who earned a "4" on their pre-test. Way to go!
7th Grade Computers
:
Seventh graders have been eagerly learning and practicing their skills in Inspire 3D. Students have learned about the basic shapes, the views, and keyboard shortcuts. They have also been learning how to highlight, lasso, change the color, place shapes, think in 3D, subdivide, sketch, extrude, lathe, mirror, and as of today modify! Students will be tested with 7 different mini skill checks starting as soon as this Friday. We will be finishing up our work of learning the program by learning about "Boolean". Be sure to ask themabout this next week. :)
8th Grade Computers
:
Students have been busy learning all about Macromedia Fireworks MX. Students have been completing different mini challenge to practices specific skills as we prepare for our first graded assessment, "Mini Project A". Be sure to ask you child about the three areas to focus on when designing and how they did on their UltraKey pre-test (keyboarding). The expectation is that 8th grade students be able to type 40 wpm at 95% accuracy or higher by the end of the quarter. In order to "exceed" beyond the expectation and earn a score of a "4", students will need to type 55 wpm or faster. We have some students that have already exceeded this expectation on their pre-test! Way to go! :)
