Homework

                             HOMEWORK POLICY

As a general rule, there is social studies homework about three times per
week, including a news article summary that is due on Fridays. During the
week there will usually be a reading assignment and a worksheet relating to
geography, original writing or other aspect of the unit we are studying.

In literature I plan one book report approximately every six weeks, so
students should always be reading something. In addition, there are regular
assignments connected to the stories we are reading in class, including
studying vocabulary words as well as essays and comprehension questions
relating to the stories.

Because reading has been expanded to 80 minutes per day, we will be
incorporating some elements of my former core enrichment class into reading.
Most notably, this will be drama, as we will be learning the elements of stage
plays and film, and using plays and movies as a springboard to writing.
In all, I believe the expanded reading time will give students the
opportunity to read more of what interests them, and to spend more time on
their novels, stories, poems and plays.

Parents having questions regarding homework for 8-2 students are invited to
call our Homework Hotline (630-894-4199), which is updated daily. For
questions regarding specific assignments, please contact Mrs. Younker, Ms.
Tewksbury, Mr. Clark or myself. Also, for students who are planning to be
absent for several days due to extended illness, travel, etc., it is
appreciated if teachers are notified ahead of time. In this way, we can
collect assignments ahead of time, or can have them ready when the student
returns.
