This is my fifth year teaching science and reading at Spring Wood Middle
School. During my time here I coached the Pep Squad for three years with Mrs.
Andrews. I’ve also had the opportunity to travel and teach our sixth graders
at the White Pines Ranch Outdoor Education Facility in Oregon, Illinois, for
the past five years.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.Ed) in May of 2007,
from Northern Illinois University. During this time I had a broad range of
teaching opportunities and experiences ranging from a bilingual school in
Rockford to several local schools in Bloomingdale (DuJardin Elementary &
Westfield Middle) and Glen Ellyn (Hadley Junior High & Ben Franklin
Elementary). In December of 2011, I earned my masters degree (M.S.Ed) in
curriculum and instruction with a focus on the outdoors and environmental
education.
While attending Glenbard East High School I was a singer and dancer in the
musical play West Side Story, and I participated in varsity gymnastics for
four years. I was also a dancer with the Natya Dance Theatre. At the College
of DuPage I swam competitively and qualified for the NJCAA Nationals both
years. I coached the Bloomingdale Barracuda Competitive Swim Team for nine
years. During this time I worked with swimmers ages 9-12.
In my free time I like to train and participate in triathlons (swim-bike-
run), play with my dog, Cricket, and travel. I also enjoy spending time
with my husband, family, and friends!
I believe education should be an interactive process between the teacher and
the students. I hope to inspire and enrich the minds of my students to
develop a passion for learning through a wide variety of learning activities
in science and reading. I especially want my students to become aware and
appreciative of the wonders in our natural environment.
