Social Studies Update for Grades 5,6, 7, & 8th 5-18-12
THE PACE HAS PICKED UP IN ALL SOCIAL STUDIES CLASSES!
AS WE COMPLETE EACH SECTION OR LESSON STUDENTS WILL IMMEDIATELY BEGIN
ASSESSMENT.
(THERE WILL BE A QUIZ ON WEDNESDAY ABOUT THE NATO SUMMIT FOR ALL GRADES.

Grade 5 Chapter 14 The Divided Nation Begins: We will read and discuss
the events leading up to the Civil War. There will be projects and hands on
activities. Students are always asked to reread each lesson. The students are
working in groups and doing well. The American Revolution tests will begin
this coming week. They are open book and materials.
Grade 6 Chapter 20 The Cold War: We are reading and discussing the events
of this chapter in class. Students are in cooperative groups from now until
the end of the school year. Students are responsible for group work, group
assessment and individual assessment. A testing date has not been determined
for Chapter 20, it will be this coming week.
Grade 7 Chapter 17 The Road to the Civil War Begins: We will read and
discuss the events of this chapter in class. The students are in
cooperative groups from now until the end of the school year. Students are
responsible for group work, group assessment, and individual assessment.
Vocabulary: Chapter 13-Testing on Wednesday(5-16-12), Friday(5-18-12, and
Monday(5-21-12).
Religion: Chapter 13 Reading
Grade 8 Chapter 17 The Depression Begins: We are reading and discussing the
events of this chapter in class. (Students have watched excerpts from It's A
Wonderful Life to enhance the meaning of the Stock Market Crash in 1929.) The
students are in cooperative groups from now until the end of the school year.
Students are held responsible for group work, group assessment and individual
assessment. Testing for Chapter 17 will begin this coming week.
