Consider us for your recycling needs!
If you wish to donate hardware or software, please keep in mind that we are
Macintosh-based. We are mostly running OS 10.4 to 10.6.
HOWEVER, if you have unused computer equipment that is still good, you may
call Computers for Schools at 1-800-939-6000 to see if they can use it. If
you have computer pieces that are completely out-of-date, please contact your
garbage company as to the correct way to dispose of them. There are places
that recycle this equipment as well, but they also charge us to do it, so the
school does not recycle outside equipment as a rule.
Your former cell phones can be recycled through the school, at no cost. There
is a pull out drawer for them in an organizer in the main hallway. The cell
phones are taken, wiped, made capable of dialing only 911, and given to
battered women and children to help their safety.
Your used ink cartridges can be recycled through us as well. Another drawer is
for them. If they are from ink jet printers (small cartridges) we
can recycle them and earn some extra money for the school. If they are laser
jet cartridges (very large, all black ink), we CANNOT USE IT AT ALL, thanks
anyway. Most of these large inkjet cartridges you can recycle yourself by
following the instructions in the box, and it does not cost you anything.
Some have asked me how to recycle Lithium batteries. Last I heard, Radio
Shack would take them. We are not set up to.
Thanks for thinking of us, though!
