FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
What heading should my child use atop his/her assignments? In the top, right-hand corner: NAME DATE HOMEROOM SUBJECT On the top line of the page: ASSIGNMENT How will I know if my child is missing work? Option 1: Ask him/her. Hopefully, honesty will be enough. Option 2: Every child has been given an assignment book in which to record his/her daily assignments. Check the assignment book daily for the assignments your child should be completing. When he/she claims to be done with his/her homework, check the completed assignments against the assignment book to ensure that everything has been done. Option 3: Every week, typically on Tuesday, we send home pink sheets with children that owe work from the previous week or failed a test in that timeframe. These sheets need to come back signed or the child's homeroom teacher will call home to ensure that it was received. This work should be completed immediately and handed in. New pink sheets will ONLY include work from the prior week; old assignments that are still missing will NOT be compiled and repeated every week on a new pink sheet. Option 4: contact the teacher. What is the best way to contact Mr. Antosh? I am available on most days from 10 AM to 10:40. A call during that period can generally be put right through to me. Additionally, if you send a note with your child or leave a message with the school's administrative assistant, I will attempt to contact you at this time or some other time directly before or after school. I am also available for a very quick word while I am standing outside upon dismissal each day. My first responsibility during that time will be to oversee the retrieval/dismissal of our students, but I can usually answer a quick question or schedule something for later. I can also be emailed through this website (I think) or at cja24@cornell.edu. If possible, attempt these avenues before leaving a message on my voicemail. I do check it, but the phone has been problematic at times, to say the least. What is the discipline policy? A referral is given during class with an explanation of the behavior issue. This needs to be signed by a parent and brought back to the homeroom teacher the next day. During recess, the student will go to Dr. M's office and discuss why the referral was given. If further action (detention, etc.) needs to be taken, it will be done at this time. My child wants to bring treats on his/her birthday, is this okay? Absolutely. Donuts are the traditional choice, as they can be easily stored and distributed. All treats will be distributed and eaten during lunch. Please bring enough for everyone. The 5th grade class currently has 24 children and one very hungry teacher. |
