My 5th and 6th grade reading classes will have vocab quizzes every Friday.
We typically introduce the words on Monday, work with them during the week,
then take the quiz on Friday. Every 3-4 weeks, we will take a week off and
have a vocab bee to review and reinforce the words we've already studied.
My 5th and 6th grade social studies classes have undertaken a geography
mission. We will be taking a small geography quiz each week as we slowly
build our familiarity with the continents, oceans, states, and countries of
the world.
My 5th and 7th grade reading classes have a book report to do each month.
This project is explained at length in a letter sent home early
in the year. The summary should be 1-1 1/2 pages, the critique should be
about 1 page of the student's thoughts on the book, and the picture should
be on white copy paper and simply needs to portray a scene from the book in
detail and color. Children should have their books okayed by Mr. Antosh as
soon as they know what they'll be reading. The reports are typically
collected on the 1st of each month, or the nearest school day to that date.
