Vocabulary quizzes will be on Friday.
Tests will be announced at least 3 days in advance.
The junior high team will work together to try and make sure that there
aren't many overlapping tests on one day.
Major undertakings, such as the science fair project and the research paper,
will be done with guided instruction during the class periods, but the
majority of the work will be done outside of school.
Rubrics and timetables for major projects will be sent home with students.
Expectations for Success
The following is a guide to help students achieve in all classes, and
explains how work will be graded in their classes.
HOMEWORK
• Work must be handed in on looseleaf paper and not notebook paper.
Assignments (except for math) are to be in pen. If not, 2 points will be
deducted.
• A heading is required on anything handed-in for grading, if a paper
is turned in without one, 2 points are automatically deducted. The
following is an example:
First & Last Name
Date
Homeroom & Grade
Subject
Assignment (Page # and Questions)
• Spelling and grammar will be checked on homework, so be careful
because points will be taken off. 1-2 mistakes, minus 1 point. 3 or more
mistakes, minus 2 points. Spelling and grammar will also be graded on
projects and papers (rubrics will be given).
• All grades (5th – 8th) will be working on handwriting during the
first week of school. After this unit is completed, all assignments will be
expected to be cursive. It is a way to practice our cursive skills. If an
assignment is printed, 2 points will be deducted.
GRADING
Homework
All homework will be checked in at the beginning of class and then collected
once it is reviewed:
• Work is complete at the beginning of class and is turned in – 10
points.
• Work is missing some components, but the majority is complete –
minus 2 points.
• If work is incomplete (the majority of it is not done) a pink sheet
will be given on Tuesday.
• Late work will be worth 5 points.
• Work that is not done by the beginning of class, nor handed in is a
zero until it is completed.
Projects & Other Assignments
• Projects or papers that are handed in late, 5% will be taken off
everyday until the assignment is handed in.
• If work is forgotten in the homeroom, each student will have 3
chances to return and get it at the beginning of the year. After 3 chances,
a phone call home will be made, and points will be deducted.
PINK SHEETS
• Any assignment not turned in as of Tuesday, a pink sheet will be
written,
• A parent signature is needed on the pink sheet, the assignment
completed, and returned Wednesday morning before 8:00 am.
• If any assignment is not completed, or a pink sheet is missing a parent
signature, the student will be assigned a week-long study hall during recess
and lunch.
• To ensure parents are aware of missing work, phone calls home will be
made on Thursday if a pink sheet does not have a signature or if the
assignment has not been completed.
