About The Teacher

This is my thirty plus(oh my) year of teaching here at St. John's.
My love of great books and writing skills overflow into my junior high
classroom. I enjoy working with the young people here preparing them for
high school academically, socially, and spiritually. Two of my greatest
joys are hearing from former students about their successes and seeing so
many alumni active in our school and parish. I have now taught several of
the children of my former students and have taught with more than I can
remember.
Continuing my education both academically and spiritually is very
important to me. I have taken a number of reading, writing, and computer
classes both at SWIC and through the Monroe-Randolph Educational Office and
the St. Clair County Educational Office, attend the Illinois Reading
Conference every year in Springfield and the Southern Illinois Reading
Council's Mini-Conference in the fall, and have completed both of the basic
and advanced level catechist classes and the advanced renewal level many
times over. I have completed my five-year certification with the Illinois
State Board of Education.
At St. John's over the years, I have worn many caps including candle
fundraising chaiperson, speech coach, yearbook staff, scorekeeper for all of
the sports, after-school tutoring coordinator, newsletter committee,
Catholic Schools Management Committee, newspaper advisor, Language Arts
Festival Coordinator, Raging Rivers Coordinator, and Safety Patrol
director. I currently continue several of these jobs; it seems as if I have
trouble saying no! But I love it!
When I am not at school or keeping score at a volleyball or basketball
game, I spend my free time creating greeting cards, scrapbooking, reading,
redecorating my home(a never-ending job), watching old movies, spending time
with my four nieces, or gardening. My husband Dan and I live in Evansville
with our dog, Harley. And having lived now in Evansville almost 18 years and
working in Red Bud for so many more, I now understand why my dad thought
this was the place to live and grow up!

Mission For The Class

The mission and goal for the eighth grade is to prepare the students to
succeed in high school in English and reading. The students will also
mature and grow spiritually through their study of social justice, the
history of the Church, and Confirmation preparation. We will learn to
appreciate the unique gifts of our classmates and celebrate them! In
discovering their gifts, our goal is to learn to use them to make the world
better for everyone!
