FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
With whom does the Reading Resource teacher work? I work with students in all classes in the primary grades, Kindergarten through third grade. Having an extra teacher facilitates small group instruction and gives students an opportunity for even more individualized attention. Where do children meet with the Reading Resource teacher? This can vary. I can meet with students in the child's classroom or in the Reading Resource room, depending on what works best for each classroom situation. Where is the Reading Resource room? The Reading Resource room is located just off the newly remodeled cafeteria, near the Belden entrance. What does my child's reading level mean? First of all, if you received a level letter from your child's teacher, that is his/her "instructional" level. Your child needs some help reading these books, but they are not so difficult as to be frustrating. By receiving help at this level, students continue to improve their reading ability. Students should be reading books below this level, at their "independent" reading levels on their own. Do I need to find books at my child's reading level? Most important is to find books that your child really enjoys! If a book is too difficult, it will be frustrating for your child. Of course if s/he really wants to read it now, then that would be a good choice for a read-aloud with you! Finding books at your child's independent reading level will allow him/her to have fun reading independently. That's the most important goal of developing a life-long reader. How do I find specific book titles at certain reading levels?
