Encourage your child to read for enjoyment every day!
Help your child find books or publications that really appeal to his/her
interests.
Lead by example; let your child see you reading. Whether it is a book, a
magazine, or the newspaper - your child will learn that reading is something
people do every day!
Read to your children as often as you can...even if it's just for a few
minutes. You can expose your children to books and language beyond their
own reading abilities. This is a great opportunity to help them expand
their vocabularies. Readers of all ages can appreciate being read to, even
adults enjoy a good "book on tape."
Talk to your children about the books and publications you are reading and
ask them to tell you about the books they are reading. These conversations
can sometimes turn into great life lessons!
