I am very excited that French is now part of Saint Josaphat's curriculum and also very pleased to be the French teacher!
This year, the students in preK3, prek4, kindergarten, 2nd and 4th grades will follow this program.
I plan to use different methods depending on the grades:
- preK3, preK4, kindergarten and 2nd grades are going to use fun materials with songs, games, stories, acting... These activities will allow the students to learn the basics and the French culture.
- 2nd grade: the chosen method is "Ludo et ses amis". This method allows the students to discover the French language in a trusted, confident and inspired environment. The activities are adapted for young students already able to read and write, and encourage verbal communication between them.
- 4th grade: the chosen method is "Alex et Zoe". The characters are inspired by Perrault's stories (famous in France). Each lesson fits with a period of 45 minutes and encompasses homework to memorise the new vocabulary and practice the grammar.
I am going to supplement those methods with the "Alexia" pictograms, which help the students learn in an easier way without using English translations.
Please check this website on a regular basis to help your children learn French. I am going to share songs, new vocabulary (all grades) and exercises (4th grade) on this media to help the students practice their new knowledge.
