Will my child have homework in Preschool?

Your child will not have official homework in Preschool but I
always
encourage parents to read to their children at home. Your child
will be able
to check out books from our classroom library so you can enjoy
them together
at home. Also keep in mind that the more you talk to your child
and expose
him/her to new vocabulary the better. I may also give
suggestions in my
weekly newsletters about other activities to do at home.

What will my child learn in Preschool?

Your child will be learning pre-literacy and pre-math skills,
meaning that
they will begin to develop the core knowledge needed for skills
that will be
learned in future grades. For a list of specific reading and
math skills you
can see me. Preschool children will also gain valuable social
and emotional
skills as well as learning how to work cooperatively with other
students.

What will my child do if he/she does not sleep at rest time?

A rest time is required for children in a full day Preschool
program. If your
child does not sleep, he/she will be allowed to look at books on
the mat, but
will need to remain quiet. The quiet time is beneficial for the
children even if they do not actually sleep.

What can I do to help out in the classroom on a regular basis?

There are many opportunities throughout the year for parents to
volunteer in our classroom. Some examples are field trips, class
parties, Guest Readers, and Project Pals. See Mrs. Dolendi for
more information.
