Week of February 21-24

Literacy Stations/Guided Reading

Students are using literacy centers focused on word work, reading, and writing and are meeting in guided reading groups. Students will be bringing home book baggies. Please have your child read and log their books, and then return them! 

Phonics

o   Word Family –-ide family

o   Word Work – long vowels, bossy e

o   Sight Words – love, great, until, just. Students will continue to practice these words from last week.  Please leave cards in backpacks for use during school. Individualized words will be added to the word rings.

 

Spelling

Students will review long vowel o, bossy e, common sight words, and animal words for their test on Friday. There will be no List A or List B this week. All students will study the 30 words sent home on Tuesday and 15 will be chosen for the test on Friday.

Reading Workshop

Students will make inferences about classmates this week. Please send in your child’s brown bag with 3 small items by Thursday.

 

Writing

Students will use story cubes to outline their stories before writing.

Math

Students will learn doubles facts and the “What’s My Rule?” routine.

 

The fast math test will be on FRIDAY this week.

 

Religion

Students will learn about the sacrament of Baptism. Baptism projects are due Thursday.

Poetry

Poem of the Week – Penny Problem by Maxwell Higgins

Social Studies

Students will continue to learn about plains, rivers, lakes and mountains. 

Science

With Mrs. Waldeck- Students will learn the importance of natural resources.

 

Grammar

With Ms. Fisher- Students will learn about adjectives.  

Reminders

·      Ash Wednesday is 2/22. Please join us at an All School Mass to begin the Lenten season.

·      Thursday, 2/23, is an 11:20 dismissal for students.

·      Scholastic book orders will be due 2/23. Our class code is H2CMD. A lot of the books have reading levels on them in case you wanted to order some new books at your child’s new level!

·      The Student Leadership Council is collecting Box Tops. There is going to be a pizza party for the homeroom that collects the most Box Tops by March 1st!

·      During Lent, we will begin the second half of our collection for our orphan, Jonathan. Each child is asked to send in $20 over the course of the year.
