Some answers to those beginning of the year questions...
- How does drop-off/dismissal work?
- Does PreK 3 wear uniforms?
- Will teachers apply sunscreen to the students before going outside?
- Can parents/caregivers/siblings come for birthday celebrations and/or class parties?
- Does PreK 3 have "specials" like the older students?
- What are some goals of PreK 3 this year?
- Can I set up a conference with Miss Wendling?
How does drop-off/dismissal work?
Drop-off can begin anytime after 7:50am.
I ask that a parent/caregiver walks the child downstairs to our classroom
(Lower Parish Hall).
There are hooks on the wall when you come downstairs to hang up jackets,
backpacks, etc. I just want to see a face and that way no PreK 3's are
wandering the halls alone! The transition into school may be difficult,
especially at the beginning of the year, so it's best for parents to do
the "drop and run". There may be some tears, but hopefully those will
ease as everyone adjusts to the new, exciting school year! For dismissal,
Ms Dittmar and I will get the children ready to go and meet by the main
door of St Josaphat School (Southport door) at 11am. A parent/caregiver
needs to come to the door to pickup. There should be street parking
available with such a small class size, or at least throw your hazards on
before walking up to the door. If the pickup person is different
than a parent or nanny that I have met, please let me know in advance.
This way all children arrive and leave school safely.
Does PreK 3 wear uniforms?
PreK 3 does not wear uniforms. This being said, please make sure your
child is dressed comfortably for indoor and outdoor play. Be sure that
they are able to button/buckle/fasten themselves if need be after a
bathroom break as well. Same goes for shoes; they should be able to run
around and have PreK fun in their shoes. No flip flops, but sandals are
ok as long as it stays warm out. When the winter approaches, children
should wear boots to school and bring a pair of "indoor shoes" for the
gym or classroom.
Will teachers apply sunscreen to the students before going outside?
I strongly suggest applying sunscreen to your child before leaving for school.
This helps save on time once we are at school. I know there is at least one
sunscreen allergy in class, so this also helps me out by preventing any reactions.
If you would like to send sunscreen in your child's bag each day, I can make an
effort to reapply before we head out to the park!
Can parents/caregivers/siblings come for birthday celebrations and/or class parties?
I am ok with family members/caregivers coming for birthdays, as long as it is
toward the end of the preschool day. I'm sure I will talk about each situation
with you when the time comes. I prefer any treats coming in to be small and
they MUST be packaged and store-bought-- no homebaked goods. I am keeping a
nut-free classroom also to deter allergic reactions. In lieu of a treat,
parents are also more than welcome to come in and read a story to the class
during our closing circle. For classroom parties, such as Halloween, Christmas,
etc, I will let you know the details the week prior to the event.
Does PreK 3 have "specials" like the older students?
PreK 3 has a language special. We will speak French with Madame Peteau this Fall.
In the Spring we will take Spanish. Multilingual by May! We will try to work out
gym time when we have inclement weather. Music and dance will be areas that we
focus on weekly in class.
What are some goals of PreK 3 this year?
In PreK 3, we are laying a foundation for a lifelong love of learning and being in a school setting.
We're fostering socialization skills for students to use now and in the years to come.
We will also be working on first attempts at writing/sketching, letter recognition, numbering, and
listening to directions.
Can I set up a conference with Miss Wendling?
