Dear Parents,
I hope you and your families enjoyed the long weekend. Last week our class learned about the traditions of Valentine’s Day and discussed the significance of President’s Day. We focused on the lives and contributions of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln and discussed what the world was like during their lifetimes.
This week we will continue our President’s Day theme and begin learning about Lent. We will focus on the book Duck for President, discuss the process of elections, and learn about the responsibilities of leaders. On Thursday we will be attending an assembly about Harriet Tubman and her contributions to the Underground Railroad. In math, we will continue to practice addition and adding coins. Children will also practice the process of editing and edit their fairy tales during writing. Because it is a short week, there will be no new sight words. Please use this time to review previously learned sight words with your child. Show-and-Tell this week will be free choice. Your child can choose what he or she would like to share.
In religion, we will begin learning about Lent and discussing the parish Lenten theme, "The power and practice of forgiveness.” Students will learn about how Lent is a time of praying, sharing, and fasting. We will also be creating a class forgiveness chain. Every time a child truly forgives another, they may add a link to our chain.
In the spirit of almsgiving during Lent, please encourage your children to earn money for Jose, the child our class sponsors through the Friends of the Orphans. As a reminder, our class goal is to raise $300 for Jose. We need everyone to contribute in order to reach our goal. Lent is a wonderful time for children to learn the importance of charity and helping others.
Please note that tomorrow we will attend an all-school mass for Ash Wednesday. Please also remember that there is an 11:10am dismissal this Thursday for optional parent/teacher conferences.
Please see below a note from Mme. Peteau:
This week, we are going to keep working on the numbers from 1 to 12 by singing another French song : “je vais skier” (“I am going to ski”). The students will also have some fun activities to practice this new vocabulary in French.

Thank you and have a great week!
