What is a typical day in Kindergarten include?
A typical day includes calendar work, Religion, sharing, reading skills,
handwriting, math, and science. We also have free choice, recess and
lunch
everyday.
What if my child is already reading?
No matter what level your child is reading at, please do not let them
become discouraged or stop practicing. Please read or have your child
read to you every day. This will help build their fluency and confidence.
During the school year all of the children will be screened for reading.
The children that score near or above a Second Grade reading level will
have the opportunity to work in a small group with Special Services.
All of the children are encouraged to read. They will have opportunities
to read aloud to the whole class and small groups as they feel
comfortable.
Do you teach the subjects, like math, science and reading, separately?
Though there are times when the subjects are taught in isolation, I work
to intergrate the subects throughout the day. We may read a story about
a whale, learn some facts about whales, and then measure how long
whales may get. I try to show the children how you need each skill and
subject to help you learn more.
How often does the class go to church?
The class will attend all of the All School Masses. This includes First
Friday mass, any Holy Days, and special masses.
What do you do if a child has an accident?
At the beginning of the year we ask that parents send a pair of
underpants and socks to school. We will give these plus a pair of
sweatpants to the child to change into. There is a bathroom in the
classroom that the children are allowed to use throughout the day.
