Weekly Quiz

A review quiz will be given each week. Depending on the grade level, it will cover whole numbers, order of operations, fractions, mixed numbers, decimals, and integers - all of which will be necessary for algebra. Students have a "Weekly Quiz Study Hints" page to help them review these concepts. They are also encouraged to come for extra review help, should this be needed.

Weekly Work

A worksheet called "weekly work" will be required each week. Students are responsible for at least one problem per day and their work must be shown. Students may choose which problems they solve. This work transitions them to math from previous classes and provides consistent practice for standardized testing. Word problems, review problems and challenge problems are included. Any extra problems correctly solved may accrue as extra credit points (subject to extra credit policy.)

Extra Help
Anyone struggling with math assignments is strongly encouraged to request additional help. Arrangements will be made to meet before or after school for tutoring, if class time is not sufficient to clear up any difficulties. A schedule of days/times available for help is posted in the classroom and on my web page.

Extra Credit

The purpose of extra credit is to reward students who go beyond the requirements of the class.   It will not be offered to those who choose not to fulfill the basic requirements of homework, attentive classwork, and/or regular studying.

Retests
If a student has met the basic requirements of homework, attentive classwork and regular studying and still fails a test, he/she may request a retest. Additional assignments or before-school or after-school tutoring may be a prerequisite to the retest.   The test grade will then be the average of the first test and the retest.

Grades

Trimester grades will be based on tests, quizzes, projects, homework, and classwork. Middle School grades, updated regularly, are available online. The grading scale is in the Parent/Student Handbook and is posted in the classroom. Students and parents are welcome to inquire about grades at any time.
