Welcome to another year of English.
The format will remain the same as in past years in that we will study grammar and its application in writing, the writing process, and for 7th and 8th grades, vocabulary.
However, there are two changes.
First, we will not be using a text for grammar class. I teach from PowerPoint presentations as I find the children learn better from them. Last year's 7th grade, this year's 8th grade, actually liked doing grammar this way much better. Homework will be from the text, and I plan, in most cases, to have that scanned on posted on this web-site under the appropriate grade. The students will be offered a text to take home and leave there. that way, they can copy the homework page. The text is also on-line (links are posted under "Links"), but they cannot print from the on-line source. There will be extra copies of the text in the room for those that really need to have a book in front of them even if the material is presented differently.
Secondly, and probably most important to the kids, there will be little extra credit given this year. While the kids liked it because it gave them many extra credit points, it was a nightmare to record and post in Grade Quick. So, I am giving extra credit for writing tests in grammar and writing assignments only.
As usual, I am really looking forward to a wonderful year with our wonderful kids.
