1. Birthday treats are optional. You can choose to donate a book to the class library, bring in a jigsaw puzzle, or pass a non-edible treat. We celebrate in class with a birthday blessing and song.
2. Math enrichment or practice sites can be found by going to eduplace.com
3. For the remainder of the year we will be assigning a monthly book report in addition to our monthly poems. The purpose of these reports is to increase both a love of reading and also your child's comprehension skills. There are skills we focus on throughout our reading series and this will be another way to reinforce these important skills.
Each month a form will be sent home with guidelines for the report. We ask that you help your child pick out a chapter book that is on their reading level and is also a book they have not yet read.
Their first book report is to be a fiction chapter book. The book must be approved by January 13th. The report will be due January 31st.
4. Spelling homework will continue with 15 words. Your child will have to write 7 sentences of their own using 7 of the spelling words. The remaining eight spelling words should be printed neatly on the homework page.
Please remind your child that sentences should begin with capital letters and have punctuation marks at the end. Only one sentence can begin with "I". Sentences must be 6 or more words long in length. The spelling word used in each sentence should be highlighted.
5. Poetry theme for January is winter. Poem due date is January 11th and we will be reciting our poems on January 26th.
6. Healthy snacks may be brought for our morning break. Please do not send chips as a snack.
7. When ordering from Scholastic Book Clubs our online activation code is DW7NF.
8. Weather permitting we will continue to go outside. Please have your child dressed for the weather.
