Spanish Señora Durán 3 - 5

November 16 – 30

Tercer Grado (Third Grade)

Third graders finished Unidad 1—El salón de clase. They will begin working on Unidad 2—Animales de varios colores. In this unit they will:

·         Review the names of colors and shapes

·         Identify different animals

·         Describe their pets and other favorite animals

·         Find out about some South American animals

Because Thanksgiving is almost here and Christmas is right around the corner, third graders will start learning the bridge and the chorus of a Christmas song in Spanish. You may find the lyrics below so your child may practice it at home.

Ven a Cantar Artist: La Hermandad

Bridge
Navidad, feliz Navidad,

vuelve a casa, vuelve al hogar.
Navidad, dulce Navidad,

en calor de hogar.

Chorus
Ven a cantar, ven a cantar,
que ya llegó la Navidad.
Ven a cantar, ven a cantar,
que ya está aquí la Navidad.

Cuarto Grado (Fourth Grade)

Fourth graders will continue working on Unidad 2—¿Qué ropa llevas? In this unit, students will learn to:

·         Describe clothing that people wear

·         Talk about how your clothes look and fit

·         Tell to whom things belong

·         Learn about traditional clothing in Spanish-speaking countries

Students started learning new vocabulary by making mannequins with magazine cutouts and presenting them to their teacher and classmates. At the end of this unit students will prepare a short sketch ¡A conversar! This sketch will allow students to start using the vocabulary and the grammar they learn in a short conversation.

In addition to working on this unit, fourth graders are learning a Christmas song in Spanish (Ven a Cantar by La Hermandad). We will work on figuring out the meaning; and on learning by heart two verses, the bridge, and the chorus.

Quinto Grado
(Fifth Grade)

Fifth graders are finishing Capítulo 1A ¿Qué te gusta hacer? As part of this chapter, students will make their first oral presentation in Spanish on Tuesday, November 24th. In case someone loses his/her rubric, use the one below.

The following rubric explains how your presentation will be graded.

Additional considerations:

As we have talked about in class, you may earn extra credit (a maximum of three points = one per each category, regardless of the number of “extra” activities) if you mention and show a visual of an activity that is not mentioned in chapter 1A.

As we also discussed in class, if you mention less activities/categories than what the rubric says, or if you are impossible to understand, or if you use less than three visuals, or if your visuals do not match what you are saying; you will earn a failing grade.

Now, go and have fun preparing for your first presentación oral for this school year!
