St. Norbert School
Physical Education Program
2011-2012
Mrs. Claire Nass
Physical Education at St. Norbert School is a structured program that is carefully planned according to
the variety of grade levels. The curriculum for each grade level contains specific goals and objectives to
help enable the students to learn and develop sport skills, understand the benefits of proper exercise
and ensure knowledge of excellent sportsmanship. The physical education lesson plans are based on
the National Standards for that particular grade, as well as, ensuring diversity and fun.
Grading
A student’s grade in P.E. is based on Effort. The three areas that determine effort are as follows:
1. Prepared for class**—gym shoes, gym shirt & gym shorts are required for each class.
2. Participation—actively participating in each activity.
3. Behavior—respectful of both teacher and students.
Daily Routines & Activities
The physical Education classes will start with stretching and follow with an age appropriate
number of laps around the gym. We will cover many different sports such as soccer, football, volleyball,
basketball and various racquet sports. We also will participate in several activities that focus on fitness,
cooperative learning and teamwork. In all of our classes, good sportsmanship is highly stressed. We do
not focus on winning and losing but on how we play the game. My goal is to see that the students are
participating, working hard and kind to their fellow classmates. Last but not least, I strive for all
students to have FUN in class.
**A uniform violation will be given if a student is out of uniform. If a student receives more than 5
violations within a trimester, a detention will be served. Each additional infraction per trimester will
result in a detention.
