                         Physical Education Program
                                 2008-2009

Physical education at St. Norbert School is a structured program that
is carefully planned according to State Goals and the variety of grade
levels. The curriculum for each grade level contains specific goals and
objectives to help enable the students to learn and develop sports
skills, understand benefits of proper exercise and diet, and
sportsmanship. At the primary grade levels, the students learn basic
sports movements, motor skills, and develop listening and sharing
skills. All the physical education classes are planned with two things in
mind: safety and fun.

The Physical Education Program consists of:
-Team sports units (grades 2-8, modified age appropriate)
-Individual sports units
-Cooperative learning activities
-Problem solving activities
-"Fun"Activities
-Chasing/Fleeing Games
-Anatomy (bones and muscles)
-Fitness and nutrition
-Group teaching presentations (grades 6-8)
-Create-A-Game(students in grades 6-8 will create their own p.e. game)
-Fitness testing (grades 3-8)

Daily Routines (beginning of class: 5-10 minutes)
The daily routine for every grade level consists of an exercise program
that includes stretching, muscle strengthening exercises, and running.
The programs are specific for each grade level.

"Mystery Student" of the day
Each day a new Mystery Student is chosen in each class. This person
is chosen before class begins without the knowledge of anyone in the
class. If this student behaves and stays on task during the entire class
time, he/she is given a small "reward." If the student does not behave
well, it is announced at the end of the class time that he/she did not
earn the reward, without revealing who the Mystery Student was for that
day.

Grading
Students are graded according to the following criteria:
*Behavior
*Coming prepared (uniform, gym shoes)
(children without gym shoes can not participate in p.e. that day) Points
are taken off for each time a student forgets their uniform. If a student
forgets their uniform 10 times during the year, each time they forget after
that they will not participate that day.
*Eager participation/effort
*Written Tests, Health Summary (5th-8th)
