4th grade is going by so fast. It is May!! Only a few short weeks to
prepare for 5th grade.
Chapter books will be read for the balance of the year. I have chosen a
challenging book with a response packet to help monitor their reading.
The students will silent read, complete their packet, and break out into
literature circles for discussions. They will be graded on their packets and
participation during discussions. Mrs. Eshbach and I will be monitoring
groups on a daily basis. The students will be given a rubric so it is clear
how they will be graded. This will give me a good indication how careful the
students are silent reading, if they are using strategies while they read,
and are they using higher level thinking when answering questions.
Adjectives and prepositions are the last parts of speech to complete.
Writing will then be our focus to unite our knowledge of the parts of speech
in our writing. Students should be able to identify all parts of speech
independently by the end of 4th grade.
The state projects are awesome!! The students are very proud of their
projects and you can see them displayed in the hallway and around the room.
We have been having lots of fun with riddles on each state. The students
were very creative with clues. We will begin discussions about the branches
of government and the upcoming election.
Fractions, fractions and more fractions will be discovered in math. We will
spend the balance of the year discussing fractions, decimals, and
percentages. This can be a difficult concept for children. We are fortunate
our smart board technology has many visual lessons that students can
manipulate and gain confidence while utilizing.
The students created games for The Ten Commandments during religion. It has
been helpful in memorizing the Commandments and understanding some of the
difficult ones for children. They have been collaborating with each other to
develop the game. Next we begin to learn about the Beautitudes.
As always, please do not hesitate to email with any questions or concerns.
Thank you for sending your child to St. Raphael School.
