My educational philosophy focuses on respect, discipline and a belief
that every person has value and can learn. Teaching must include diverse
methods to accommodate the varied learning styles and multiple
intelligences. Math, Science & Language Arts are fantastic fun and amazing!
Discipline is an integral part of providing a safe, effective and fun
learning environment. Rules and regulations will be respected so everyone
knows the expectations for 4th grade. Strategies and tools will be used in
school that have proven results to foster better self concepts, self esteem
and team approaches. Multicultural, interdisciplinary and varied learning
strategies will be implemented.
My Illinois Certification permits me to teach students from Kindergarten
through ninth grade. Many student strategies are used in the classroom that
were learned when I completed a Master of Arts Degree in Teaching. Fourth and
fifth grade students are terrific and children who are 9 to 11 years old amaze
me. I enjoy teaching and challenging them every day so they develop and
progress to their highest potential.
St. Thecla has been my "home" since February, 2001 when a substitute
teaching position was offered to me because of the teacher's maternity
leave. The late, Mrs. Henricksen, proposed that I take the 4th grade
teaching position when the teacher left. I'm grateful to Mrs. Henricksen
and Father Ken for giving me the opportunity and putting their trust in me.
I've worked to make your children's learning enjoyable, meaningful and
worthwhile. I will continue trying to improve and thank you for your
continued support and confidence. Your children deserve respect and a
chance to learn to their highest potential. You can be assured that I will
teach with integrity, respect and passion so your children learn the content
and skills necessary for succeeding in today's global economy. Thank you
again! With your support and input, your children will thrive.
Our class mission flows from Jesus Christ who was the greatest
teacher. He taught us that each person is our brother and sister. So we
maintain a community of collaborative learners who value and nurture each
other. Diversity is significant, embraced and respected. We advance
individually and collectively with mutual support. Success is applauded and
encouraged for all team members. Multiculturalism makes better citizens. It
helps us understand varied perspectives. This knowledge is vital in today's
world. This approach will help your child think independently while
respecting others' viewpoints. It nurtures respect and thoughtful
discussion.
