I am very excited about the 2011-2012 school year! I'm looking forward to
working with new co-
editors-in-chief of the Star, seniors Crystal Phillips and Tetyana
Prannychuk, and many veteran Star
reporters. I am happy to be the adviser for the Steinmetz Star for the third
year. Being a part of our
award-winning paper is great!
It will be my tenth year as an English teacher. It is my fifth year at
Steinmetz. Prior to becoming a
school teacher I worked other jobs. My favorites were teaching and coaching
tennis, reporting and
editing a monthly newspaper about the Chicago public schools (see
www.substancenews.net), and
doing secretarial work at my church. The best job I have is being a mom.
My husband and I have three children: Danny, a CPS graduate who just finished
college in
California, Sammy, a CPS fifth grader, and Joshie, who is a CPS first grader.
They look younger in the
photo, though, because that's from June 2009.
I love reading and writing and I love teaching high school students how to
become better readers and
writers.
My mission is for the students to belong to a postitive community of learners
where all will improve
their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. The Steinmetz Star
publishes on a monthly basis,
with all the journalism students reporting accurate, well written stories.
