"Good music comes out of people playing together, knowing what they want to
do and going for it. You have to sweat over it and bug it to death. You can't
do it by pushing buttons and watching a TV screen." — Keith Richards (That's
as in "The Rolling Stones", people! You gotta PRACTICE!!!)

In addition to the daily grade earned for ensemble participation that is
averaged weekly (see the rubric posted in 400/401 or downloadable on the "On
line Documents/Archives" page of this site), students who do not play or sing
during any class period receive a ZERO for a Bell Ringer grade. This will
drastically reduce your average and could result in failing your music
course. Bell ringers CANNOT be made up if you are present in class that day.
Absent students must see me or use this website for make-up assignments.

Remember:
You need to go to Student Services for a replacement reed or
book (if you lost yours). Having a good (playable) reed is the
responsibility of every woodwind player! Failure to have your book,
instrument, or a reed results in loss of participation points and a call home.

Here's an excellent video of Wynton Marsalis explaining the value of
understanding jazz and it's importance to Americans of all races, especially
African Americans. Copy the link into your browser. This is one of the final
extra credit assignments to be posted this year.
