QUALITY PUBLIC EDUCATION IS THREATENED

Dear Parents and Stakeholders,

Our core strategy has been and always will be to operate the school district with a balanced budget. Nevertheless, our budget for last year was unbalanced and the one projected for fiscal year 2011 will be unbalanced as well. Alarmingly, in just two years we have depleted our reserves by 1.5 million dollars.

We are truly caught in a perfect storm of reduced revenues, late (or no) payments by the state, a web of mandated programs, and public expectations for improved service at a lower cost.

I remain a firm believer, however, that quality public education, available for all students, is the cornerstone upon which our nation was built. Providing our students a rigorous and comprehensive skill set for lifelong learning is the priority mission for our community, state, and nation. It is also Kinnikinnick’s greatest strength.

We must keep the faith and work through these difficult times. I encourage you, our parents and stakeholders, to be registered to vote, to be informed of the issues, and to be actively involved in the political decision making process.

The future of the Kinnikinnick School District depends on it.

Sincerely,

Robert Lauber

Superintendent
