![]() Weekly Puzzles - All Grades
Weekly Puzzles show not only that a student can figure out a math problem, but also explain it. Responses include showing all work and at least a 1/2 page written response. Weekly Puzzles will be assigned on most Mondays and will be due on Friday of that same week. These will only be for five-day weeks and will start in late September or early October. Students should follow these steps when completing a weekly puzzle: 1. Solve the problem showing all math work - even if the work can be done in your head or is done on a calculator, you must show the work. 2. Include any pictures and labels with your work. 3. Begin your paragraph explanation by stating the strategy that you used. Strategies include, but are not limited to: computation, draw a picture, make a table or organized list, look for a pattern, guess and check, etc. 4. Explain in complete sentences exactly how you solved the problem in a step-by-step order. Don't leave anything out! After each step that you write about, tell WHY you did that step. For example: "I multiplied 6 x 8 BECAUSE I needed to know how much 8 items would cost." 5. Make sure your last sentence clearly states your answer. ![]() |
