8th Grade Algebra

The purpose of offering algebra in 8th grade at Tonica Grade School is to provide the opportunity for students to take higher level math courses, such as Calculus, in high school. It is also to challenge students in the area of math to better prepare them for high school and to meet their ability levels.

This class is a high school algebra class, covering all topics that are taught at L-P. At the conclusion of the course, students will take an Algebra Proficiency Test to determine placement in a math class at L-P. Students may place into Honors Geometry, Honors Algebra, Algebra 1A, or Algebra I. The test has traditionally been given at our school at the end of May and results are given within one to two weeks so that changes can be made to freshman class schedules.

Students enrolled in the algebra class at Tonica should be willing to work hard and ask for help when needed.

First Semester Topics:

Review of various mathematics topics

Functions

Equations

More on Equations and Inequalities

Linear Equations and Slope

Daily Routine, except for test days:

Problem of the Day
