This year in my classroom
I will be using a positive class management system called "Buffalo Bucks". In
this system each student will receive $20 in buffalo bucks a week. On Friday
they will have a chance to purchase things such as pencils, erasers,
notebooks, books, etc. from "The Wild West General Store".
Each child has an
opportunity to earn more bucks through postive behavior, AR goals, Tumbleweed
Team, and 100s on tests. They may save thier money for larger purchases or
spend it all every Friday. They may also save money for my end of the year
"auction".
Students may have to "pay
fines" for behavior. (See behavior Chart)
"Fines" may also be charged for failing to turn in homework or complete class
work in a reasonable amount of time.
Besides being an incentive
for positve behavior in the classroom, it is a fun way to teach students how
to manage money. It is a great way for them to put their math skills to work.
It also teaches them to be responsible for their own actions.
Each student will have a
checkbook that the "buffalo bucks" will be kept in. I have a track sheet for
each student to keep up with their balance as well. I keep the track sheets on
a clip board. When a fine or reward occurs, I write the debit or credit on
that student's sheet. All debits and credits will be taken care of by the
students during recess or free time. Each week one student will be the
"banker" for the week. Their job is to help me collect any fines or make any
payments at the end of the day.
